8th Grade/ How did we get here?

Kennewick Man was discovered by accident in July 1996 on the banks of the Columbia River near Kennewick, Washington. Archeologists who first studied the skeleton, assumed that it was the remains of an early pioneer. However, further analysis revealed characteristics of not only European, but also Asian. A stone projectile point lodged in the pelvic bone is that of a type usually identified as from 9,000 to 4,500 years old has suggested that non-Indian peoples may have been among the first settlers here. This has led us to the question: How did we get here? In teams, you will continue to research your assigned theory (Clovis-first, by boat, or crossing the Atlantic ice) of migration in class in order to make an evidence based argument to your peers. This analysis will set the stage as we investigate the geography of the early America’s, and the establishment of early American civilizations.

Homework Response Question: Using evidence, how did early people migrate to the America's? What else does the Kennewick Man reveal about the early America's? Due 9/19/2014

The early people migrated from the Berginia bridge to America during the Ice Age. The Kennewick man reveal that he is not a Native American because his characteristics do not match them.

the early came to America during an Ice Age, crossing over the Bering land bridge and traveling through an ice-free corridor in the Northern United States. The Kennewick Man reveals that the first People that came to America were not Native American because the Kennewick Man doesn't have features of the Native Americans but Europeans or Asians.

The Kennewick Man shows evidence that early people migrated using the Beringia land bridge, or the clovis-first model. Kennewick man also reveals that the earliest of settlers could have been non- Indian (Native American).

The people migrated using the Bering land bridge to get across the Atlantic ice. I know this because Clovis artifacts are oldest ever found. Those artifacts were found all over North America. Lastly there skulls do not match those of the native Americans.

People migrated into the Americas over the Bering Strait Land bridge, during an ice age. Since the ice age caused the ocean level to decrease, land was uncovered (the land bridge). An ice age also causes plants to die. Therefore, the next most important source of food, is meat. Most of the game (deer, rodents, ect.) were probably herbivores, so their food source was also depleted. So the migrated over the land bridge into North America, bringing with them the Humans (also known as the Clovis Civilization). The Clovis people used spears to hunt the game, and many of their spear points were found across the Americas, and even around the Bering Strait.

The Kennewick man reveals that Native Americans were not the first people in America. The Clovis people are the oldest people found in America, and their bone structure revealed that they were not Native American, but perhaps European or Asian.

The early people migrated to the Americas by crossing the Atlantic ice. The Kenniwick man shows that the the first people that came to America were not indeans because he did not have there features.

The early people migrated to the America's by crossing the Atlantic Ice. The Kennewick Man reveals about the early America's, that the skeleton was not only European, but also Asian. Which tells us that he is not a Native American.

I think people migrated to the Americas by way of the Beringa land bridge. I think this because there was a land bridge there at the time, and arrow heads were found all over the USA, and the oldest ones were found where the land bridge would've been. This means that the early humans were at the land bridge first, then migrated from there to the rest of the continet.
The Kennewick man reveals that the first people on the Americas weren't from there, but that they were originally from Europe.

I say that the early people traveled here by the Atlantic ice. My evidence proves this because there were many stone tool sitings by where the people migrated and plenty arrow heads found along the way. Kennewick Man reveals that he is definitely NOT Indian or Native American but is European and shows a little bit of Asian.

The early people migrated to the Americas using the Beringia land bridge (Clovis first theory). The evidence to support this is that at the time the land bridge was there. I know this because during an ice age the water levels go down and this would have exposed the land bridge. The Asians would have migrated using the land bridge because their game (mastodons and mammoths) were migrating and since that is their greatest source for food they would naturally follow the herd of animals. Archaeologist discovered spear points where the Bering land bridge would have connected to Alaska. They then discovered more spear points throughout the country. The oldest spearpoint was found in Alaska meaning they started there and then spread out. The Kennewick man reveals that the earliest people that came to America were the Clovis people. He reveals that the Clovis people were either Asian or European instead of Native American.

I say that the first humans migrated by boat. The evidence that proves that is people migrated in large groups at a time and they did that by coming in large boats. The boat theory is also right because they couldn't of walked across ice for that long.
Kennewick's man shows that he is a male European not native American.

I believe that the people migrate by use if the beringa land bridge. Arrow heads were found all over the USA at the time. Kennewick man revalas that they did not travel from there. and they were from Europe.

The way people migrated to the early Americas was by the Beringia land bridge. During the ice age the water levels decreased which allows the bridge to be exposed and get people across. Evidence of this is that there were arrow heads along the trail that these early explorers were suspected to have taken. Also, they wanted to follow their main source of food. Game. During the ice age the animals were migrating to different areas which means people would migrate to different places to keep up with the animals.
Kennewick Man's skull structure seems to show that he is part of a European dissent and Asian dissent. This reveals that the early americans were not native american but they were of a European or Asian dissent.

People came to the Americas by land bridge. The water levels decreased and revealed land bridges which the early humans took. Early humans migrated to hunt and gather, but also to find new land to settle on. This kept the humans moving and traveling.

Kennewick Man has showed to be an Asian and European. This reveals that the travelers were not Indian, or Native American and were European/Asian.

The very first people to get here was the people who got here by boat (the by boat theory). I say this because they found a boat made outta red mammoth skin at ocean floor. Now the other theories are rumors because they had no real artifacts or facts to prove that the others theories are the right.

The moat logical theory of migration is The Clovis first Model. The arrowhead in Kennewick mans pelvis greatly resembles arrowheads found in Clovis, New Mexico. The arrowhead was found in a mammoth skeleton so it was from around the time of early migration

People migrated to the America's traveling by boat. Evidence: Some paleoboats, boats that are made of animal skin and wood, have been found in the river near where migration started. Not many paleoboats were found because they were made out of materials that decomposed easily. Skeletal remains have been found near where the boats were located, which can be because they traveled by boat. Kennewick Man reveals that early America's came and migrated to America a long, long time ago because his remains are 10-20 thousand years old (I forgot how old exactly). The oldest remains found of settlers are 18,000 years old, and they were used as evidence for By Boat.

The kennewick man shows that early settlers used the Bering land bridge to get to North America.
it also shows that not all early Americans were native americans.

In Kennewicks skull a tool was found. The scientist traced down and tried to find who it belongs to. The scientist traced it down to the Clovis people and the Solutrean people. They noticed that the same type of technology was found before in the Solutrean area than the Clovis area. Kennewick revealed that the Soluteans migrated by using the Solutrean theory. Which is the being the first to the Americas by traveling by boat.

People migrated here using the land bridge. Kenniwick man showed that it was a long time since people migrated here because the stone spear head dated back 5000 to 9000 years ago

I believe that the first people migrated by boat. i believe this because some paleoboats, boats that are made of animal skin and wood, have been found in the river near where migration started. And there was a large amount of people coming over so they traveled in portions on boats to get over here. They didn't have big boats either so one boat could probably hold up to 1 family.

Due to the fact that the Beringia land bridge connected the continent of Asia with the continent of North America, the Kennewick man gives us more reason to believe that Native Americans migrated to the Americas first. Another clear indicator was the stone that was found within the Kennewick man's pelvic bone. It dates back to 9,000 years ago. Abdullah Siddiqui

Based on evidence me and my partner gathered while doing our project I conclude that the early americans probably crossed the bering sea land bridge into north America. Also at the time the Kennewick man came to north America they were not very advanced in tools.

Early people migrated to the Americas by a land bridge. the reason I believe this is because the land bridge connected Asia (were people originated from) to the Americas. The Kennewick Man reviles that early Americans were not very advanced (in tools, speech, etc.).

Early people migrated by boa. They did this because they could access boats and they could easily make it. I have evidence because there was people that died along text shore and they found tools relating to boat use. John Maguire: pd:7/8 bdf
