7th Grade/ James Fort!

Dr. William Kelso wants to launch an archeology study to find the remains of James Fort- the first permanent English settlement in the colonies which is the one many know from the story of John Smith and Pocahontas. However, no one knows what it really looked like and it hasn’t been seen in about 400 years. Using a variety of both primary and secondary sources, we will try to reconstruct what this fort looked like during Colonial times. In our task of reconstructing the fort, we will work to answer the question: How does Archaeology help write the historical record regarding Jamestown?

Homework Response Question:

It affects settlement because if the weather is always raining or its always bad weather and disasters people might not want to settle there if the like to farm of swim or play out side and if your in the middle of the state and they also might not want to settle there if they like to go deep sea fishing or like to go to the beach. Now if the soil is dry all the time and and is bad and does not get much rain for crops they will not want to settle there if they are a farmer

Archaeology helps write the historical record regarding Jamestown. It helps us by letting us know how the people who lived there's daily lives. Maybe we can even find new tools that were never discovered that the settlers used.

Archaeology can help write history by looking at artifacts or bodies and looking beyond the records that already exist. Examples like anylizing bodies that tell age, gender and race. You can also look at remains of their fort or base. These are very similar to the remains at Jamestown. They were found because there was archaeology. - Felipe Calderon.

Archeology helps write historical records of the past by finding artifacts to support theories and other evidence. Artifacts can help you figure out more about time periods and events of the past. Archeology can also help uncover and solve mysteries of the past such as the Jamestown Fort.

Archaeology helps write the historical record for Jamestown because if you find specific artifacts then you can see how old the object is and how the people of Jamestown used it. You can also find bones of people who once lived in Jamestown and you can determine how old they are. Also with the bones you can see how much work the people of Jamestown did seeing how worn down the bones are. Finally, if you see soil stains it shows where graves, houses, or other buildings might have been.

Archeologist help discover Jamestown historical record because they can construct digs to recover artifacts. They can dig for graves and find dirt stains and with the dirt stains they can find skeletons and can tell so mu.ch from just a simple skeleton. They can also dig for the forts artifacts, shape, and or layout. They can study all this and record the data, this will allow them to study it even more make sure it makes since and then publish it.

Archeologists use historical records of the past why finding artifacts or discovering ancient bodies of the past. These things hep archeologists because it heps them get a glimpse of the past with out actually being there. After they find an artifact they analyze it to find as much information about it as possible.

The artifacts that archaeologists find can lead to clues and evidence to Jamestown's past. They can tell you the tools they used and the way the cook or even how they farm and even how they live.

Archaeology helped write the historical record regarding Jamestown because if they find a grave and it was/is near James fort they can find the age of that person and discover the time they were born and they can find the time of when was James fort built. Also if they find a body they can find out what it died from, and detect that either lack of food, water, etc.

Archaeologists supply the scientists and forensic artists with samples to study. If they hd not discovered the remains, then the historians wouldn't have known where James Fort was. Also, the archaeologists found the soil imprint of James Fort's walls. At that time, most historians believed that the fort was at the east end of the settlement, but William Kelso proved them wrong. That is what archaeology contributed to the Jamestown rediscovery project. James Hsia 3ACE

It helps by finding and studying the bones. You can measure them to tell what gender, age, and height.

Archeology did help write the historical record regarding Jamestown in many ways. If you find certain objects or even a grave, archeologists would be the ones to discover it. So when they find these things, they can date a record, therefore they can make a historical record.

Archeology is the study of human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains. The historical record of Jamestown was initially established after thorough excavation of the past. Bones of the colonists that settled in Jamestown suggested that tomes were rough, considering the many ways of death. Soil stains suggested were James Fort was built in turn giving an approximate location of where the colony was. The artifacts that were uncovered hinted at their lifestyle and current knowledge of the land (maps), and current technologies. Trees hinted and the climate, which gave clues to the fluctuating mortality rate. Many other examples of archaeology were used when piecing together the puzzle that was Jamestown. Without Archeology, the historical record of Jamestown would be left with gaping holes.

Archaeology helps write the historical record a lot at Jamestown. The first thing they help is the skeltons, they examine them and find important evidence on them to find which time they are from. They also found the fort which helped up know where it was and when it was made. That is how acrhaeologists help historical recording in Jamestown.

The archaeology helps the historical by knowing how they eat and how they die. There skull gives them the information of how they die of and there bone tell the historical if they have any injury. If they find any items it can help them find what they use back then and give them a little imagination. Cati Silvestre Perez 5/6 ACE

Archaeology allows us to discover and study the artifacts of the people of Jamestown. We can then understand their culture and what they did in their daily lives. It helps us determine what is true and what is fiction about the stories we here about Jamestown. The artifacts that are found help us determine the type of homes they built, food they ate, clothes they wore and religion they practiced. Archaeology is one of the best ways to help us understand how the settlers of Jamestown lived.

Archacology helps write the historical record by finding or recovering the maps and the writings. Also the archacology part helps find and recover the graves and bones to research how the people lived and died. They also find the foundations of the buildings. So in conclution archaology helps write the historcal record using the skills they have and finding the important artifacts and bones to help the historians reconstruct the past.

Well, if archaeologists were to find an artifact or a skeleton they could examine the features to see like if it was a new food we didnt know they ate or a new type of clothing they wore that we didnt know about or maybe things like tools we didnt know that they used or had back then or what they lived in. So this is how archaeology helps write the historical regard of Jamestown.

Archeaology studies the physical evidence left by early humans and analyzes the results. They then give the results to historians to try to fit those notes into the historical record. They try to fill in the gaps that historians can't find in written record. That is how they literally helped write the historical record regarding Jamestown. They found evidence where Jamestown is.

As we studied James fort this week we examined different archeologists who found different artifacts that went back to Jamestown. Those artifacts and bones of people filled in the information that they may or may not of known before. For example in the book "Written In Bones we found out about the life of a young girl and who she was in particular. So they are slowly filling in the gaps of who lived in Jamestown along with when.

Archeologist are the type of field crew that go to a cite and dig up evidence. So in this case Historians send out Archeologist that dig up bones, tools, logs, and even weapons. They will send the evidence of what they found to the Historians and then they will date/record it.

It helps us knows about Jamestowns past, it tells us that many people lived in Jamestown, but it doesn't only tell us that it also says how the shape of the fort was shaped (basically triangular). Thanks to these archeologist they have helped us discover Jamestown history so that we can feel like we lived there our whole entire life. So basically they use evidence found and record it so that we can learn the pasts history.

Archaeology helps shape the history of Jamestown because the found skeletons to help them when how people died and how long their average death year was. They also help by finding pictures of art and people to see what they wore back then. Every one back then all had a part to do and they all needed to help each other get through the drought. I know this because archaeologists help find this out.

Archaeologists did many things to help write the historical record of Jamestown. Archaeologists help find fossils, artifacts, and other important things of the past. One main thing that they did is grave excavations. A grave excavation is basically digging up a grave to study the skeleton. A couple of the benefits of grave excavations are you can find out who the person is, how they died, and how they were buried. Another thing Archaeologists did was find the shape of James Fort, where the graves were, and where the other buildings inside were located.

archaeology helps write historical record because you can use information from things you find from the past. like fossils, artifacts and other very important things. You can also use bones to figure out how someone died. You can find a lot from a skull and other important human bones.
