7th Grade/ Transportation!

Transportation is an issue faced by all explorers, whether settling out on a family vacation or traveling to a new world for the first time. The shape of the vehicle must serve the purpose of the trip and be large enough to carry both the explorers and their supplies. Vessel design, including the shape and size of a vehicle, is important. In class, we will work to analyze the components of vessel design, navigation, and propulsion in order to evaluate how they affect exploration. We will utilize the tools of both early explorers to Jamestown, as well as modern tools used today.

Homework Response Question- How do vessel design, navigation, and propulsion affect exploration?

The design of a vessel includes its shape, size, and function. The vessel design must be appropriate for the environment that is being explored in order to be effective.
Navigation is the science and technology used to find the position and direct the course of a vessel when exploring. Navigation tools are things like maps, magnetic compasses, and GPS. These help explorers find their way to new places and back home.
Propulsion is a force that causes an object (vessel) to move forward. Propulsion helps explorers move their vessel. Propulsion helps you travel faster and further depending on the type of propulsion used.

The vessel design is the most important to me. The vessel has to be working and functioning properly. It affects exploration by getting you there safely. The next important to me is navigation. It affects exploration because it tells you where you are going. The last thing is propulsion. It affects exploration because it moves the vessel toward the way you want it.

Many things can affect exploration. One thing is vessel design. Your vessel can affect exploration by either limiting or widening your variety of places to explore because of its structure and functions. Another thing that can affect exploration is navigation. Navigation affects exploration because of its availability. A compass is useful but if you don't have a compass you have to use a other methods like the stars. Sometimes weather such as clouds can postpone your usage of star navigation. Another thing that affects exploration is propulsion. Propulsion affects exploration by influencing the direction in which you go. For example, the Jamestown settlers used the wind as their propulsion to get across the ocean. If the wind went in the different direction, the settlers had to wait for it to go in the right direction to go on.

Many things can affect exploration. One thing is vessel design it affects it because there is little space so it is little room with all those men. Another affect is navigation since they had little supplies in the 17th century getting around wasn't as easy as it is now days. Last propulsion which helps with moving your vessel . The faster the propulsion the easier exploration is. The reason it is easier is because the quicker the vessel the faster you get to exploring!!

The vesssel design inclueds its shape, size, and function. The design must be functioning properly. Navigation affects exploration because it helps you tell where you are going. Next, Propultion, moves the vessel where you want it to go.

Vessel design is the shape, size, and function of a transportation vehicle. Your design need to be fit and ready for the environment you are going into. For instance if you are going to another country by boat you might need a big boat depending in how many people and what the weather is it all just depends. If the vessel design isn't set up right you can have people die you may not have enough room for the materials you need. All sorts if things can go wrong. Navigation is very important as well. Today we have high-quality navigational tools but back then they didn't. They had compasses that didn't work at all the time, maps that weren't 100% accurate, and that's about it. Today we have things like GPS is that tells exactly where we are. Back then if they got lost they will probably end up dead. For instance if they were on the water in there Compass told him the wrong direction they could get lost at sea. Or if they had an incorrect map leading them to some random place. I think we take our navigational tools for granted now a days. Propulsion can also play a big part your difficulties of travel. If the weathers not good you can't go out on the boat. And how are they to know that the weather wasn't going to be good they didn't have phones. So see there are some major things that play part in traveling. And if any of these things went wrong you can end up dead!

Vessel design, navigation, and propulsion affect exploration by determining how fast, comfortable. The navigation affects what direction they go and where they go.

the vessel design effects how comfortable the personal travels one place to next place. the navigation effects how fast and how accurate your travel from one place to the next and how safe u are.

Zahra Siddiqui 9/11/14 pd. 7-8 Vessel design affects exploration by making sure that the ride to the New World is safe and steady enough. The navigation affects exploration sometimes by helping the explorers find their way ,and other times by misdirecting the explorers. Lastly the propulsion affects travel by making the ride either faster or slower.

Vessel design, navigation, and propulsion are three key concepts that determine whether or not your voyage is/will be successful. Navigation was/is important when exploring because you need to be at least generally aware of your surroundings to know which way to go. Propulsion is important because if your vessel can't move on it's own then you can't exactly explore or go anywhere in general. Vessel design is important because your vessel, even with propulsion, cannot function properly, and sometimes not at all, if not fit for the environment it will be used in.

Propulsion affects how fast a ship is, how long it will go, and when it will move. For example, a sailboat will only move when there's wind, but a boat with an engine will go as long as there's oil. Navigation affects how accurate a ship's path is, wether

it's a boat or a GPS unit on a ship. Vessel design can make a ship very slow, spacious, comfortable, fast, or any other thing. A good ship should have
a vessel design for the journey.

Navigation, vessel design, and propulsion are all very important. Navigation is how you know where you are going. If your navigation is off, you could end up stranded or lost. Vessel design is how the vessel is made. If it's made poorly, it could malfunction. Propulsion is how you get where you are going. If this affected, you might stand still. These traits of exploration are all very important.

The vessel design is the design that your ship will be in. This design depends on the environment that your boat will have to face. Such as Jamestown it has many creeks, lakes, river, ETC. Your vessel design would have to be about 25 meters (82 feet). The navigation is determining were you are going to end up on your voyage. That is the vessel deign of the boat I would travel in.The navigation is used to determine and thing with a point A and point B. One source would be a map you have to follow all the directions to get to your destination. Another is the compass it tells you what direction your going in. That is the navigation of this trip. Last is the propulsion of this trip. The propulsion is the power of the wind. Propulsion would help us on this trip by telling us which direction the wind is so we can sail that way for higher speeds. This is how I used Vessel Design, Navagation, And Propulsion in my voyage!

The vessel design is the shape, size etc. So when your building a boat or something, you want to make sure you have the size and shape and color all planned out before you start to build. You would rather have too much space than not enough space. Navigation is important to have cause like if your traveling anywhere you need to know where your going and that's what navigation does it tells you where your going. Propulsion is very important cause it gets you where you need to be and its like a motor or a paddle or anything that keeps you moving. These are 3 important things to have when traveling.

Their navigation was at least better then before. Before all they had to go but was the stars and landmarks now that's hard. They also used to monitor depth. So at least they have compasses. They used the angle if the sun in the sky. That allowed them to calculate latitude. So stars definitely played a big part in navigation. Now it's replaced by a sextant. The compass was the first and most reliable of its kind. You could also mess up hue process of making a compass and it take you completely to the wrong place but hey that's all they had.Astronauts used star charts. Stars were pretty reliable but there are some things that could go wrong. You could have a cloudy night/day where you can't see stars/sun. Even though it's harder to travel in space it's definitely not impossible.

Navigation back then was similar to navigation today, such as space ships have gps inside of them to help them travel. Exactly
like what are space ships do, also many Jamestown explorers traveled by wind and we have boats that travel by wind still today. Also both space travelers and Jamestown explorers followed the stars. Now for the ships vessel design, ships back then were very small and had weight limits and no space at all, the same thing with space ships. Like our ships today you need them to have space for cargo and room for travelers and something to get where you need to go, something accurate, like a gps. Also propulsion is like your speed and your wind it gets you where you need to go.it gives you a safe travel, so like me I'll use the best motor alive for my ship.

(by the way I have a google account and it said something about cookies and cache showing up so yeah) So vessel design effects exploration in many different ways like comfort I know that would'nt be high on many peoples list of like things I would need but yeah so also shape and size also have a say in vessel design and exploration.
Also navigation has something to do with GPS and satillites and how they trach down your point right to the centimeter

The vessel design is important because if you have a lot of people on your ship then you have to have enough space for everyone and everything. In the 17th century ships had sails that only worked one way so the wind had to blow behind them. For navigation the sailors your different tools to tell where to go.Some of the tools they had were a magnetic compass a astrolade. They could tell where they were near any landmarks or how deep the water is.The propulsion is the force pushing it so in this case the ship was being pushed by the wind. When they were sailing the wind would not blow in the right direction so they would stay there until it changed.

Vessel design navigation and propulsion are important because, you need a vessel that can hold supplies, hold you, hold navigation and piloting equipment, and is able to get you from one place to another propulsion is important because without it your vessel won't move navigation is important so you don't get lost and if you are lost than it helps you find your way back. The Vessel design is basically the whole design for the ship you're building . You will have to think of the environment your boat/ship will be facing . For example in Jamestown has many creeks , streams and lakes etc. There for you would need to build your ship/boat to be able to go through those types of things . Navigation is how you get from point A to point B . There are many tools you could use to help you . These tool change from time to time like we would have used a map about 25-50 years ago .Unlike today where we can just pull out our GPS' and enter the address . Propulsion is just the conditoins of the wind . It will help sail your boat across the water . { high wind levels = faster speed / low wind levels =Slower speed or not even moving }

Vessel design is very important because its basically the design of your ship. Propulsion is also very important because if you travel by wind you wont go very fast which means that it will take more time. Navigation too is also very important because you would need to know where to go when you travel.

Vessel design, navigation and propulsion are the 3 major things for vehicle. Vessel design affects the way you travel. You have a boat, a plane, a train. All the designs are made lighter so you can travel faster. Navigation is very important to. Navigation is the thing that tells you your position and helps you get to your destination. Some examples of navigation are an astrolabe, GPS, and a compass. Propulsion also very important to exploration. You can't explore if you can't go anywhere. you have to propel yourself forward with things such as the wind, motors, or muscular strength. All of these are important for exploration.

Vessel design affects exploration because the shape of the boat either slows down the boat and makes it take longer to get where you're going or it makes the boat go faster. Also the shape of the sails matter. If your sails don't catch the wind or they're not the right shape then you're not going to go anywhere much less explore anything. Navigation affects exploration because if you think you're going north but you're actually going south then you'll be lost and not where you want to explore. Propulsion affects exploration because if you can't move forward then you can't go anywhere to explore.

First the vessel design can affect exploring because you would have to match the requirements for what it's traveling on like if your traveling on the water or in space and air resistance, it's flotation or even it's defense against space debris.Propulsion is also important for exploring because it's what makes the vessel move. Different kinds of propulsion like wind, chemical or even just sunlight are the only way to get your vessel moving. Navigation helps you with where your destination is. Tools like a compass, astrolabe or a sextant can find where you are and where you need to go. All of these play a role in how to explore. -Felipe Calderon 7/8 ACE

Vessel Design, Propulsion, and Navigation affect transportation in many ways. One main way that Vessel Design affects transportation because the speed that a vessel travels at depends on the design. The size of the sails, the weight of the vessel, and the size and shape are all part of the vessel's design and all affect transportation. Propulsion also affects the speed the vessel travels at. Wind, currents in the water, and motors are part of propulsion and affect the speed that the vessel travels at. Last, is navigation. Navigation is a crucial part of transportation. If you you don't know which way you are going, you most likely aren't going to be going anywhere. A magnetic compass in colonial times or a GPS in the modern day can be very affective when traveling. There are many things that contribute to transportation and those were just a few.

The vessel design is the shape size of an object such as a boat. If you had bad vessel design your boat would probably crash and kill every body or just not every one could fit. Navigation is is what you use to find you way around an area. If you had bad navigation you could get yourselves lost in the middle of no where. You could also run into some thing. Propulsion is the force that pushes a vessel and moves it if you are in the middle of space and you had no propulsion you wouldn't be moving at all. This is why all three of these things are important.

Navigation is also very important because you dont want to get lost anywhere without food and die. Propulsion is pretty important too. you need to be able to move across the water. if you dont have good propulsion you will end up stranded in the middle of the sea

Transportation is an important theme of exploration. Vessel design, navigation, and propulsion are all ideas related to transportation.
Vessel design, including its shape, size, and function, must be appropriate for the intended environment in order to be effective. A ship designed to sail the ocean would be too large to explore a narrow river channel, for example, just as an aircraft with wings is of little use in deep space, where there is no atmosphere to provide lift to the wings. That's why vessel navigation, and propulsion affect exploration.

The vessel design, navigation, and propulsion affects the way to navigate by the way the ship moves in the waves will it rock or will it stay still is the thing you need to consider when designing the vessel. Is it going to go the right way N, S, W, E or is it just going in any way it wants that's the navigation part. And finally how's the ship going to catch the wind that's propulsion.

The Vessel Design,Navigation, and Propulsion affect MNy things about a ship. For one, the vessel design should be big enough so you can fit your whole crew in the boat/ship and also if your vessel design screws up,you can endanger your life and everybody else's by crashing the ship or sinking because of a hole the size of a paperclip.Navigation helps you know what's around you about where your going, but if you don't have your navigation right, you could be stuck in the middle of the ocean.Propulsion determines the speed that the boat or ship travels or if you have a low or high tide then it gives you an idea of what speed to go at and to also determine the wind that moves the ship in a certain direction.

it can affect exploration if you dont have any room and if you do not have proper or close to correct navigation then you more than likely to go in the wrong direction.
